I took a trip to Cairo in March... for 24 hours. I can't wait to get back

Don’t Skip 2 Days

Whenever embarking on a wild venture (in this case, This Wild Venture), it is very difficult to create a habit of creating and writing.

Here’s the thing: Don’t Skip 2 Days.

I meant to write yesterday, but I went to an Adobe event at the Nevada Museum of Art (investing in my creative work means learning creative tools and hanging out with creative people, after all). And I haven’t been sleeping well enough. And I was working on our Amazon listings all day yesterday (which anyone would tell you is a top priority!). And Russ left town today, so I wanted to spend as much time with him as possible (and I failed to do that anyway).

Yesterday didn’t happen, and it’s gone.

Like sands in the hourglass, so are the days of our lives. (I heard that somewhere)

(it’s from a famous soap opera called “Days of our Lives”)

Today didn’t look like it was going to happen either. After all, I dropped Russ off at the airport and then Amazon ate another day (I swear to GOD, I think Amazon may be my personal demon, sent from Hell to eat every glorious hour of every beautiful day, sucking every drop of life into its obtuse spreadsheets… where the moments turn calcified like dead coral).

As a recreational activity and to burn off some of my Amazon angst, I decided to see if I could use Adobe Illustrator’s new AI features to create a logo (which I did, kind of):

this wild venture logo - horizontal

(I always wanted to use that font – it’s called “High Vibe” and I got it from Creative Market – but never really had an appropriate opportunity until now)

But I saw that I was about to skip a second day… and that just ISN’T GOING TO CUT IT around here. You know why?
I want it too bad.

I want the things that this blog could bring…

… A creative outlet to share my many diverse interests

… A home for my travel stories and musings (and a REASON to travel and muse)

… A place to share my creative portfolio (so I can legitimately apply to Artist in Residence programs with the National Parks)

… A technical challenge as I struggle to learn WordPress after a decade of Shopify (which is where Outlaw is hosted)

… A place to store all the reviews that I mean to write (I mean OMG I HAVE SO MANY REVIEWS TO WRITE)

… A low-stakes place to create the projects that I secretly want to make (like my judgmental dead people napkins)

… A way to support my very expensive photography, art supply, and travel expenses

None of these things are guaranteed, but they’re definitely enough to motivate me to sign in at the end of a really long day to bang out a post.

And tomorrow, I’ll write another one.

And another one after that.

And maybe in 5 years, I’ll have a whole new adventure because of these little actions.

Worth a try, right?
